BAY & WHIT Card wins an AWARD
March 9th, 2010
The loyalty card schemes for Herne Bay and Whitstable, the BAY & WHIT Cards have won an award from the Federation of Small Businesses for supporting both local businesses and the community. The concept was created by Coastal Towns Manager, Chris West. Currently we have over 350 businesses offering a discount or promotional offer and 42,000 loyalty cards in circulation.

Town Partner, Barry Cursons from Barry Cursons Plumbing & Heating and Herne Bay Fireplaces is walking the Great Walk of China in May 2010 for Age Concern / Help the Aged. Barry will walk for 8 days, 8 hours per day, starting at sea level going up to 4,000ft.

Following the success of the BAY Card, we now have a new dedicated website for both the BAY & WHIT Cards. It features all the businesses with their offers and discounts and you no longer have to carry a BAY Card, you can put an image on your mobile phone, through the new website.

Herne Bay's Oldest Pub, The Ship Inn has now re-opened

Herne Bay's oldest pub, the Ship Inn, Central Parade re-opened on Thursday 11th February 2010. The Ship Inn has a new tenant, Town Partner, Tony Farrow of Kings Caterers. The pub has been completely re-furbished and offers a warm welcome, fine wines and beers, quality food and a relaxing atmosphere.

People United a community arts charity are working in Herne Bay on a project throughout 2010. We All Do GOOD Things is a project about telling good news stories.
They are collecting stories of kindness, love, courage and generosity from across Herne Bay. These will feature in an exhibition later in 2010.

We will be launching a new website for the BAY & WHIT Card at the end of the month. The website will have information on all the businesses taking part in the scheme in Herne Bay and Whitstable and the promotional offers and discounts available.
Birds stop the Clock tower on the Seafront
January 13th, 2010
Herne Bay Clock tower has stopped because pigeons and other birds have got into the bell chamber and started nesting. This has meant the mechanism has become stuck.
The trapdoor sealing off this area will be replaced and the Clock tower should be fully functional next week.
New way of sledging on the Downs

Local shops have sold out of sledges, so the next best thing is a Wilbee & Son Estate Agent board, according to the sledgers on the Downs.
Whilst this is fun, Town Partners would not recommend this, as it could be seen as a criminal offence.
Heavy Snow hits Herne Bay

Six inches of heavy snow has fallen in Herne Bay this morning causing problems on the roads.
The photo of William Street car park shows it is going to be a quiet day in town.
New Mural for Herne Bay Station

Town Partners have comissioned Mural Artist, Dean Tweedy to create a mural at the Herne Bay Railway Station, which will feature two modern trains.
The work will start in early January 2010 and has been funded by a community grant from KCC Councillors Jean Law and David Hirst.
Snow falls in Herne Bay Town Centre

Herne Bay has had a heavy snowfall over night, with snow on the seafront and beach.
The town is fully operational; it's business as usual.

Christmas Window Competition Winners
December 15th, 2009
Herne Bay Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the TCM held the annual Christmas Window Competition 2009.
We had fourteen entries and the judges managed to pick the three best windows in the town.
1st, Barnums, 2nd, Tots, Teens and Tubbies and 3rd Frangipani.
President of the Herne Bay Chamber of Commerce and member of Herne Bay Town Partners, Michael Khoury, presented the shield to Mike Butcher of Barnums.

Ade Edmondson switches on the Herne Bay Lights

On Saturday Herne Bay Christmas Lights were switched on by Ade Edmondson star of the Young Ones, Bottom and this year's Marlowe Panto, Peter Pan.
This was Ade Edmondson's first visit to the town and referred to the town as Herne, forgetting the Bay. Over a thousand people attended the switch on to see the comedy legend.

Goodbye to a well known Cafe Owner

Jim of the former Marine Cafe in Central Parade, close to the Ship Inn passed away after an illness last Thursday. Jim was a well known and a well liked businesman who will be sadly missed by his old friends and customers.

The Herne Bay Cultural Trail was officially launched in May 2009, since then we have distributed over 3500 Cultural Trail information leaflets. One of the most visited attractions has been the statue of Sir Barnes Wallis on the Downs in Beacon Hill.

Herne Bay is the best for customer service

Herne Bay shops, along with Whitstable and Canterbury offer the best customer service in the South East, according to a recent survey by the mystery shopping company, Retail Eyes. They ranked the towns as top of the shops, along with Southend, to celebrate National Customer Service Week.The results were based on 140,000 mystery visits across the country and revealed the district had an 82% score for customer satisfaction.

Herne Bay was Awarded Silver in the National Britain In Bloom Competition & Silver Gilt in the South & South East In Bloom.
The Herne Bay In Bloom Committee are always looking for new members to support the campaign and bring fresh ideas to the table.
You don't need to be a keen gardener as the competition is about local environmental quality as well as lovely flower beds.
If you are interested and take a pride in seeing Herne Bay flourish please join the committee. You may have ideas on how to fund raise or you may have thoughts on how areas can be tided up or made to look more attractive, you may belong to a community group that would like to be involved in some way.
If you have a business that would like to sponsor the campaign, it doesn't have to be with money it could be in other ways. The ways you can become involved with the campaign are endless.
The committee usually meet once a month for around an hour, so you don't have to commit lots of time.
It takes a lot of work to achieve the results that we have been awarded over the past four years, please come and join us.

Pier Sports Centre to move to Herne Bay High School
September 23rd, 2009
The Pier Sports Centre will be moving to the Herne Bay High School, work is planned to start early in the New Year.
The new sports centre will be purpose built and will accommodate Roller Hockey, Bowls and other local sporting activities. The centre will have its own entrance, 200 additional parking spaces and seating for 460 people.
The current fitness centre in the Pier Sports Centre will be re-located to the Heron Centre. The Heron Centre in William Street will be extended to accomadate the fitness studio.
This will give Herne Bay excellent sporting facilities; the new Sports Centre is planned to open in June 2011 and the new fitness centre, September 2011.
